Huskies Rally for Win over Coker College

HARTSVILLE, SC-- Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp). went 4-for-5 and drove in four runs to lead the Bloomsburg University baseball team to a 21-11, come-from-behind win over Coker College on Thursday. The Huskies scored 17 runs over the final three innings to rally from a 6-4 deficit for the victory.
The Huskies opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, one of them courtesy of an RBI single from Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner). After Coker came back with two runs in the second and four in the third for a 6-2 lead, the Huskies began their comeback with a run in the third with Medina singling and later stealing home. Bloomsburg made it 6-4 in the sixth on an RBI ground out by Keenan McCann (Hanover Twp/Hanover) before Coker got the run back in the bottom of the inning making it a 7-5 game.
In the seventh inning the Huskies exploded and scored 11 runs on nine hits and one error. Ward had two run scoring hits in the inning, while Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) and Rich Letts (Parkesburg/Octorara) had RBI triples and Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/Wyalusing) an RBI double.
Leading 15-9 in the top of the ninth, the Huskies tacked on six insurance runs with Medina getting the big hit, a bases loaded triple to drive in three. Coker College got back to more runs in the home ninth, but it was too little, too late as Bloomsburg posted the 21-11 victory.
For Bloomsburg, Medina was 4-for-5 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored, while Ward was 4-for-6 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Matt Allen (DuBoistown/South Williamsport) was was 2-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Hitchcock was 3-for-6 with two doubles, an RBI and four runs scored.
Bloomsburg, 3-11, will play at Shippensburg on Saturday in a twinbill starting at 1 p.m. The Huskies doubleheader at home on Sunday, March 16 with Shippensburg has been postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
